an amazing man just told me this koan:

A Zen monk and a novice were walking beside a stream and they saw a fish. The monk said, “Look at that fish. It doesn’t even know that it’s swimming in water.” The novice said, “How do you know? You are not the fish.” The monk responded, “How do you know? You are not me.”
